Philips revealed an agreement to sell its Emergency Care business to Bridgefield Capital, a U.S.-based investment firm.

The company and the Emergency Care business will enter an exclusive brand license agreement to use the Philips brand for manufacturing, sales, and marketing of Emergency Care products worldwide for up to 15 years.

The Emergency Care business houses products that are critical in acute care management in and out of the hospital. This includes cardiac resuscitation, such as automated external defibrillators (AEDs), and emergency care devices for professional and consumer applications.

The business is a cornerstone of global emergency care, operating in more than 130 countries with a large installed base of over three million AEDs and advanced life support (ALS) devices worldwide. Supported by a network of 480 global distribution partners, the business has established itself as a trusted provider of life-saving technologies in communities, workplaces, and hospitals.

Supported by advanced informatics solutions, the business ensures device readiness and allows EMS teams and hospitals to transfer patient data seamlessly for improved care coordination, compliance reporting, and continuous improvement.

This deal is part of Philips’ renewed company strategy to concentrate resources where it can achieve larger scale and financial impact. Philips said it carefully considered options for the Emergency Care business and decided to divest the business to Bridgefield Capital. The U.S.-based investment firm advises and invests in businesses to accelerate growth and profitability.

The transaction is expected to be completed in the second half of 2025. Financial terms were not disclosed.

“As a focused and agile standalone entity, the Philips Emergency Care Business can concentrate on its core mission, innovate rapidly, and deliver exceptional value to its customers and communities worldwide,” said Richard Foster, Managing Director at Bridgefield. “We are excited to support the talented management team, its’ committed employees and dedicated group of global distributors, as together we realize the global life-saving potential of this essential company.”
