Nihon Kohden, a company focused on high-precision patient monitoring and diagnostics, has acquired a 71.4% stake in NeuroAdvanced Corp., parent company of Ad-Tech Medical Instrument Corporation. Ad-Tech is a provider of specialized electrodes for epilepsy treatment and neurodiagnostic procedures.

The deal combines Nihon Kohden’s expertise in EEG systems with Ad-Tech’s specialized intracranial electrodes. This strengthens the company’s ability to address complex neurological conditions like drug-resistant epilepsy.

Both companies are already present in most of the top 50 U.S. hospitals.

Ad-Tech’s electrode devices are used in long-term EEG monitoring, brain mapping, SEEG and brain stimulation. They’re instrumental in treating those with intractable epilepsy and other neurological disorders. Ad-Tech was founded in 1983 and has since built a worldwide presence with products approved in more than 60 countries, including the U.S., Europe, and Japan.

Nihon Kohden’s long-term vision—BEACON 2030—aims to offer the best care for patients in acute neurocritical care situations. The vision hopes to preserve function and enable precision via intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) and boosting the usefulness of patient data using its analytics and digital health solutions (DHS).

ARCHIMED, the previous owner of Ad-Tech, will remain as a minority JV partner with Nihon Koden.

“This acquisition represents a pivotal step in advancing critical solutions for epilepsy care,” said Roy Sakai, President of Nihon Kohden America. “By uniting our strengths, we’re enhancing our ability to provide end-to-end support for epilepsy—from accurate diagnosis to advanced interventions.”

Last month, Nihon Kohden introduced the availability of its NKV-440 ventilator system, which was previously offered through its OrangeMed subsidiary.
