Medical Device Components (MDC) revealed its official rebranding as Lighteum Medical following the divestment from Johnson Matthey as a standalone company and successful acquisition of Lighteum LLC.

This evolution makes Lighteum Medical a strong force in precision components made from precious metals and nitinol materials. The unified brand, according to the company, reflects the integration of MDC’s high-volume manufacturing of precious metal micromachined components and nitinol tubes and sheet with Lighteum’s focus on nitinol-based complex components.

These unique metals are known for their radiopacity, electrical conductivity, and superelastic properties. They enable applications in minimally invasive devices for electrophysiology, vascular intervention, and neurovascular therapies.

Lighteum’s portfolio includes platinum group metal (PGM) alloys, custom-engineered PGM components, nitinol sheets and tubes, as well as high-complexity nitinol components processed through advanced techniques like femtosecond laser cutting, shape-setting, and electropolishing. The offerings support minimally invasive devices used in high-growth clinical specialties.

The company operates four state-of-the-art manufacturing and technology centers globally, with headquarters and micromachining operations in San Diego, Calif.; a Rapid Development Center in Oceanside, Calif.; a Nitinol Center of Excellence in Mexicali, Mexico; and Asia-Pacific platinum operations in Australia.

“Our rebrand to Lighteum Medical marks an exciting new chapter, combining the strengths of two innovative entities to deliver unparalleled value to our customers,” said Don Freeman, CEO of Lighteum Medical. “By merging MDC’s precision durability with Lighteum’s innovative speed, we are forging a powerhouse dedicated to setting new standards in complex medical manufacturing. The name Lighteum Medical embodies our continued evolution as a high-growth, innovation-driven partner for the world’s leading MedTech companies.”
