electroCore’s Board Elects New Chairman

Former leader continues as a strategic advisor to the company.

electroCore Inc.’s Board of Directors has chosen a new leader after Chairman Peter Cuneo stepped down from his position and assumed a new role as strategic advisor. The governing body elected orthopedic surgeon Thomas J. Errico, M.D., as Cuneo’s successor.

“I want to offer my gratitude, and my congratulations to Peter Cuneo on his retirement from the electroCore Board of Directors,” electroCore CEO Dan Goldberger stated. “Peter has provided exceptional counsel to management and advocated strongly for all shareholders as a board member since 2020 and as chairman since 2021. His leadership and guidance during his tenure as chairman was key in the turn-around of electroCore, and we wish him success as he continues to share his insights on leadership through his podcast, Superhero Leadership.”

Dr. Errico has been a board-certified orthopedic surgeon since 1986, and currently serves as a pediatric orthopedic spine surgeon at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. He served as the chief, Division of Spine Surgery in Orthopedics, NYU Langone Health, from 1997 until 2019. He is also currently an adjunct professor, Department of Orthopedic Surgery, in the NYU Grossman School of Medicine.

Dr. Errico completed his undergraduate degree at Rutgers University and then graduated and complete an internship from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. After completing a residency in Orthopedics at NYU School of Medicine, he completed a yearlong fellowship in spinal surgery at the University of Toronto under the direction of Dr. John Kostuik. Among others, Dr. Errico helped found K2M Group Holdings Inc, which is now a public-traded company selling spinal implants. Dr. Errico has served as president of both the North American Spine Society (NASS) and the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery (ISASS).

Along with JP Errico, Dr. Errico founded several medical device companies. According to the Medicine Lodge 2001 Spinal Implant Intellectual Property Report, he is the most prolific inventor in the field of spinal implants. Dr. Errico has been listed as one of eight spinal surgeons to know in the field of scoliosis. He was also listed as one of the 10 best orthopedic surgeons in the U.S. Health Articles 101. Dr. Errico also served on the Board of Directors of SpineCore, a company he co-founded, from inception to sale. 

“Dr. Errico co-founded electroCore and has been a consistent advocate for shareholders,” Goldberger added. “Dr. Errico’s counsel as the chairman of the Nominating and Governance Committee has proven invaluable to both management and the board and I look forward to his leadership and continued stewardship as Chairman.”
