Arterex is expanding its medical device manufacturing capabilities with the purchase of tubing extruder Xponent Global Inc. Neither company disclosed the deal’s financial terms.

With eight extrusion lines across 55,000 square feet of manufacturing space including 5,000 square feet of Class 8 cleanroom space, Xponent Global provides high-quality precise filaments, over the wire extrusion, multi-lumen, taper tubing, para tubing, and tight tolerance single lumen tubing for a wide range of applications from simple packaging tubes to demanding products used in neurological and laparoscopic devices.

“Xponent Global has been operating since 1937, bringing over 80 years of expertise to Arterex,” Arterex North America President Bill Gerard stated. “With this acquisition, we can serve the extrusion needs of our North American customers locally at the highest global industry standards.”

ISO 9001:2015-certified Xponent Global was established in 1937 as the New England Tape Company, a producer of extruded plastic tape coverings for cable used by the U.S. Navy. The Hudson, Mass.-based company later worked with medical device companies to develop radiopaque materials and applications that are still in use as radiopaque tracer filaments. Currently, Xponent Global serves the medical industry with 1-inch to 3-inch diameter extruders, with secondary machining capabilities such as inline printing, stamping, cutting, slitting, punching, and flaring, as well as downstream packaging. ISO Class 8 cleanroom extrusion allows the company to process high–quality products that can be supplied in bulk form or further processed into finished assemblies to meet the demanding performance requirements and packaging needs of medical customers.

“We are excited to complement the Arterex group of trusted, high-precision medical device solution providers,” Xponent Global President Chris Sullivan said. “As a qualified supplier to some of the best-known medical companies in the world, we share in the vision of developing new technologies that improve the quality of patient outcomes.”

With 14 state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities across four continents and more than 2,000 employees, Arterex companies have offered its customers design, development, engineering, compounding, extrusion, injection molding, tooling and mold builds, and advanced assembly solutions for over 25 years. The multi-capability medical device developer and contract manufacturer was born from the combination of Kabo, Formula Plastics, Luc & Bel, ModenPlast, NextPhase, Micromold, Phoenix, Adroit USA, and now Xponent Global.
