Penumbra Inc. has secured CE Mark for its MIDWAY and ACCESS25 delivery catheters, thereby expanding the company’s neuro access platform.

MIDWAY 43 and MIDWAY 62 delivery catheters are designed to provide ideal tracking and a stable platform to support the delivery of various embolisation therapies in the neurovasculature. Based on Penumbra’s RED catheter technology, these MIDWAY intermediate catheters are a significant advancement in the intermediate access device market, allowing clinicians to balance support and trackability in a wide range of applications, according to the company.

Compatible with Penumbra’s BENCHMARK 71, BMX81 and BMX96 Access Systems, the new MIDWAY catheters are engineered to enable the precise delivery of distal microcatheters, embolisation coils, intrasaccular devices, and flow diverters. For each therapeutic approach, MIDWAY catheters are designed to provide a critical balance between trackability and support, which is achieved through the advanced catheter design, full length PTFE liner, and distal hydrophilic coating.

ACCESS25 is a single lumen medical device designed to help physicians access the neurovasculature for delivering Penumbra’s advanced .020-inch coil platform. ACCESS25 is compatible with Penumbra’s MIDWAY Intermediate catheters and BENCHMARK/BMX guide catheters and was designed to facilitate ease of trackability and stable support when delivering Penumbra’s 0.020-inch coils for neurovascular embolisation such as PC400, POD400, and PAC400.

Clinicians using PC400 coils reported lower aneurysm recanalization and recurrence rates, higher packing density, fewer coils needed, and lower procedure time compared to 10-system coils. ACCESS25 is available in various tip shapes, including straight, 45-degree, 90-degree, and 130-degree.

Based in Alameda, Calif., Penumbra designs, develops, manufactures, and markets products that address challenging medical conditions with significant unmet need.
