Medical Manufacturing Technologies (MMT) has launched its Glebar P5K gauging system.

According to the company, the system provides fast and precise scanning and profiling capabilities with ergonomic flexibility for operators. It aims to revolutionize guidewire measurement and metrology processes for the medical device and industrial markets.

The P5K technology was originally developed to meet the requirements of medical guidewire assessment. It accurately measures long, slender components as well, which can translate to better manufacturing outcomes for a number of industries, the company said.

It has the ability to scan and profile components up to two meters in length and 6.35 mm in diameter. The P5K measures at a speed of 16,000 diameter readings per second. MMT said it delivers 12 times the measurement of currently available gauging systems on the market. It also offers the first available sit, stand, or sit/stand option to prioritize operator comfort, flexibility, and productivity.

User-friendly software ensures traceability with fully automated measurement to provide objectivity and reliable results. An improved interface lets inspectors scan multiple parts with the click of a mouse and advanced air bearings boost the longevity of the scanning head and eliminates mechanical interference.

Data analysis features, with optional SQL packages, comply with the strictest requirements and deliver data centralization across multiple facilities. Increased speed permits operators to improve in-process quality control (QC) with efficient returns to the grinder. There’s also reduced time needed to establish new product recipes.

“The launch of the P5K comes at a pivotal time when manufacturers are seeking solutions that deliver not just speed but also reliability and predictability,” said Trent Steckler, Vice President of New Product Development at MMT. “Use of the P5K for guidewire and industrial parts measurement ultimately translates to significant time and cost savings achieved via increased throughput, predictive quality insights, and reduced scrap.”

Earlier this year, MMT acquired bonding industry pioneer Innova Design and micro-precision sandblasting provider Comco.
