Nelson Labs, a provider of microbiological testing, analytical chemistry, and advisory services, has expanded its laboratory space at its Wiesbaden, Germany facility.

The Wiesbaden site offers end-to-end sterility assurance services with Nelson Labs testing and Sterigenics sterilization in one location. The expansion includes four new labs to address the quickly growing packaging testing services demand in the market.

These additional capabilities boost current microbiological testing capacity including endotoxin, bioburden, EtO residual testing, and BI sterility. Further, the expansion enables introduction of packaging integrity services.

The new facility will conduct a full suite of packaging testing services including strength testing, integrity testing, container closure integrity testing, microbial barrier testing, aging studies, and distribution testing.

The facility expansion also includes improvements to bioburden testing, featuring separate sample, personnel entry points, and HEPA-filtered air systems. Nelson Labs aims to have the full scope of testing services operational by the end of this year, with ISO 17025 accreditation scope expanded to add the new packaging testing for early 2026.

The company said the Wiesbaden facility will stay fully operational throughout the expansion.

In June, Nelson Labs broke ground on an expansion project at its Salt Lake City headquarters that will double its cleanroom capacity and support growing demand for sterility assurance testing. The company also marked its 40th anniversary this year.
