Advanced Sterilization Products (ASP) has launched its Biotrace instant read steam system, an FDA-cleared steam biological indicator system.

The new system generates a readout in seven seconds—current standard biological indicators can take 20 minutes or more to do so. Using Biotrace, sterile processing departments (SPDs) can nearly immediately verify sterilization results, according to ASP.

ASP Chief Medical and Scientific Officer Dr. Ivan Salgo said Biotrace’s launch is a significant advancement in the company’s ability to offer frontline staff quick, actionable sterility data.

“By reducing the readout time to just seconds, we’re addressing a long-standing bottleneck that often impacts both productivity and peace of mind,” Dr. Salgo told the press. “This system supports SPDs not only in meeting compliance standards, but in exceeding them, with confidence.”

Biotrace touts advanced fluorescence detection and can streamline routine monitoring of steam sterilization cycles. Its reader accommodates two simultaneous test positions, records the last 50 results, and connects to digital infrastructure via USB, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.

The accompanying Biotrace Assist app and SM Cloud web application also provide secure cloud storage, traceability, and automated reporting for hospital tracking systems. ASP Global President Chad Rohrer said the company is proud to lead the charge to redefine sterility assurance.

“This is a leap forward in our commitment to help hospitals do more with less, supporting frontline staff with technology that empowers their work,” said Rohrer. “The introduction of BIOTRACE Instant Read Steam System reinforces our role as a trusted partner in innovation for infection prevention, while elevating the standards of care and operational excellence.”
