Quasar Medical, a manufacturer of interventional and complex minimally invasive devices, has begun an agreement to acquire Nordson’s design and development contract manufacturing businesses in Galway, Ireland and Tecate, Mexico.

The company said the acquisition will bolster its global standing as a full-service contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) because it can offer manufacturing solutions from initial design to production. Quasar expects the deal for Nordson’s businesses to close in Q3 2025.

Nordson’s Galway and Tecate facilities add expertise in complex balloon and catheter design, rapid prototyping, and near-shore device assembly. In addition to providing IP-generating capabilities, the sites add U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-registered and ISO-certified facilities with a skilled workforce in two strategic medtech hubs.

Due to the transaction, Quasar will possess ten facilities—800,000 square feet of manufacturing space total—spanning North America, Europe, Israel, and Asia with expertise in balloon catheter systems, micro-EM sensors, and quick scaling up of low-cost assembly and manufacturing. Inhabiting these facilities will be more than 4,200 employees, including over 50 new product development engineers.

“This is more than a bolt-on acquisition—it marks the next chapter for Quasar,” said Alex Wallstein, CEO of Quasar Medical. “We are now positioned to deliver fully integrated interventional solutions from concept to scale-up finished device, adding significant capacity in Ireland and Mexico to our well-established Asian footprint—diversifying Quasar into a global CDMO partner.”

Dave Zgonc, Vice President of Nordson Medical Interventional Solutions, added, “We’re extremely proud of the highly skilled teams in Galway and Tecate, their expertise, and the customer partnerships they’ve built over the years in our finished device contract manufacturing business. We are thankful for their commitment and dedication to this business.”
